The biggest danger at the beach is not sea life, sharks, the water (Although watch out for currents and rips) etc. It may well be the sun, and the cumulative effects of being exposed to UV radiation. I have good friends who have had parts of their body cut off to prevent skin cancer taking hold, and there are numerous well documented stories of skin cancer leading to an early death.
As a hard core outdoor enthusiast, I am well aware of the dangers of the sun, and dress accordingly. Hats, sunglasses, long sleeve shirts and UV protective pants play a vital role in staying protected under the sun, and zinc plays a vital role. Nothing works as well a zinc in my experience, and it has the ability to stay on, in the water. 100 SPF suncream? It does not exist, and will probably come off in the water in 20 minutes. Zinc on the other hand can stay on for hours and provides real protection form the sun.
Key Sun, made in Australia for Australian conditions. HKD70 for a 50ml tube. Bronze, white or clear. Pick up in Big Wave Bay.
I would advise a base coat of clear first, then a smothering of the nose, cheeks and lips with white or bronze.
