A note on the best time to surf.

Big Wave Bay is a small beach, It does get busy, and weekends, mid morning to later afternoon, there can be many surfers in the water. Not all are competent and quite unaware of the danger of what their out-of-control surfboard can do if they run over somebody. To learn to surf in Hong Kong, I fully encourage early morning sessions , anytime between 5:45am and 09:00 am daily.  Check the weather in advance. The mornings can be stunning, maybe you are the only one in the water with the sun coming up, ready to enjoy a hearty beach breakfast post surf. Done and dusted by 9 am, with the whole day ahead of you. A great way to start the working day or weekend. And if it is flat and you want to go on a great adventure, try www.surfinghongkong.com/coasteering

Calendar – Available times 5.45 am to last start 9am, or 17:15pm to 19:00pm

Love my experience with Surf HK!! Learned surfing for a while now. I have surfed in Mexico, Hawaii, US, Thailand and always had experiences hiring someone to go with me as I still have so much to learn when it comes to surfing. The thing I have learned is that you can’t fake passion for surfing. Additionally, you may be good at surfing but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a good teacher. No doubt Antony is both. He has taken it to a whole different level when it comes to teaching. The level of commitment he showed in helping me getting better is very apparent. Seriously, do u want ur surfing experience to be enjoyable, amazing and really developing that into a habit, instead of just popping up on ur board for once and done? If you’re the former, go with this guy. This is the guy.

Antony is a very good coach, great surfer, very professional, patient and observant. With Antony's coaching, I have some key breakthrough and manage to catch some unbroken waves. He’s always helpful no matter whether I am asking for advice for buying a surfboard or picking a destination for surf holiday. I would highly recommend Antony for anyone who would like to take surf lessons in Hong Kong.

Antony Dickson has been my Indonesian, Hawaiian and elsewhere surf partner on at least one trip a year for the past 19 years for good reason: He is always challenging himself and those around him to push their limits yet his enthusiasm is always tempered by a belief of keeping safety of paramount importance - he's always the first to offer help in critical conditions when a leash or board snaps. His smooth, powerful and emminently competent surfing style excels in waves waist-high to triple overhead but he's much more than a surfer. Antony's passion for the ocean runs deep and he surf skis, dives and is a third generation competitive swimmer. I witnessed his tenacity firsthand providing paddle support in a surf ski when he finished fourth in a 15km open ocean race, HK's most prestigious event of its kind, all while solo'ing against relay teams of four. Antony has accrued vast knowledge on preparation and water safety on his global surf sojourns and more importantly, he enjoys sharing it. Combined with swim and paddle techniques and tips, he is much more than just a surf instructor.

I am very thankful I joined surfing Hong Kong. The instructor Antony was very professional, took great care of me, and believe it or not I was up and surfing within about 15 minutes. I love surfing and owe thanks to surfing Hong Kong for getting me surf ready. :)

When I had my lesson the waves were quite large so the instructor insisted that we needed one instructor per student for safety. It was really fun but I felt safe, and after a few waves I managed to stand up and ride all the way to the beach. After this lesson, I continued practicing surfing, and now I get in the water as often as I can. Excellent job Antony!
